How to Add a TV Tuner to the PS3

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) is a video-game console that is, for all practical purposes, a computer with an operating system and inputs for adding peripherals. A TV tuner can be added to the PS3 without disassembly or physical modification of the console. The tuner must be acquired from Sony of Japan or an authorized dealer of peripherals made by Sony.

Instructions

  Place the Sony TV tuner next to the PS3, which should be powered off.

  Plug the Sony TV tuner̵7;s USB cable into one of the USB ports on the front of the PS3. Screw the coaxial cable from the digital cable box into the coaxial port on the back of the tuner.

  Turn the PS3 on using the rocker switch on the back of the unit. Press the touch-sensitive power button on the upper right ledge on the front; remove your finger when the green light appears and starts flashing.

  Insert the Sony TV tuner installation disk, label side up, into the front loading slot.

  Plug the USB cable from a PS3 game controller into a USB port. Do nothing until the icon of the disk appears on the screen. Highlight the disk using the navigation pad on the controller. Press the ̶0;X̶1; button. Follow the menu prompts to install the disk̵7;s software on the PS3̵7;s operating system. Press the ̶0;O̶1; button to return to the main menu after the installation is complete.

  Press the ̶0;Eject̶1; touch-sensitive button on the ledge to the left of the power button; remove your finger after the green light begins to flash. Pull the disk out and place it aside. Press the touch-sensitive power button; remove your finger once the green light begins to flash. The PS3 will go into standby mode.
