Cie'th Stones
In "Final Fantasy XIII," one of the side quests that a player can complete is completing the missions to unlock each Cie'th stone found in the game. Cie'th stones represent the spirits of fallen l'Cie, residents of the Gran Pulse world of "Final Fantasy XIII," who have failed to complete a mission. A player can walk up to a Cie'th stone and choose to talk to it; the stone will explain the mission that it failed to fulfill and the player is given the choice to complete that mission.
Waystones
A few of the Cie'th stones found in "Final Fantasy XIII" are referred to as waystones. Waystones can teleport a player from one area to another in Gran Pulse, making travel between areas much quicker. There are 10 Cie'th waystones to be found in "Final Fantasy XIII;" two in Yaschas Massif, three in Archylte Steppe, and one each in the areas of Vallis Media, Mah'habara, Sulyya Springs, Tajin's Tower and Oerba. When a player accepts a waystone mission, the in-game map will display the target's location with a pink star instead of the yellow arrow that indicates the main game path.
Teleporting
A player must successfully complete the missions for two Cie'th waystones before being able to teleport between stones. This is very useful for players who want to earn more crystogen points, which improve a character's attributes after its Crystarium level increases, by transporting to a different area after all local enemies have been defeated. Activate the waystone in the same way you did to accept its mission. This will bring up the option to teleport to any other Cie'th waystone that has been unlocked to that point.
Completing Missions
Missions accepted by a player to unlock a waystone involve finding and defeating a boss-style enemy that was not defeated by the l'Cie inhabiting the Cie'th stone. Typically, these boss creatures have strong resistance to certain types of attacks but weaknesses to other attack styles; these weaknesses and resistances vary from mission to mission. Behemoth characters, such as the one that must be defeated to activate the first Archylte Steppe waystone, begin the battle from a laying position and stand up to recharge their health points when they become damaged to about half HP. Completing a Cie'th waystone mission with a five-star rating will reward a player with a rare item that he can sell; Cie'th stone missions can be replayed to achieve a five-star rating.
