How to Make a Text on the PS3

The PlayStation 3, released in 2006, can do more than just play video games; it allows you to play movies, music and keep in touch with your friends as well. By adding someone to your Friends List, whether it is a new friend met in an online game or an old friend you have known for years, you can chat in a variety of ways. One way is by using text chat. Similar to instant messenger services on the PC, text chat allows you to talk to up to 16 friends at once by sending text-based messages to each other in real time.

  Select the "Friends" tab on your PlayStation 3's main menu.

  Select "Start New Chat" followed by "Text Chat."

  Enter a name for your chat room. Names can be up to 39 characters long and can include letters, numbers and symbols. Select "OK" after you have named your chat room.

  Select the friends you want to invite to your text chat from the list provided. Select "OK" when you have finished selecting your friends to create your chat room.

  Press "X" on your PlayStation 3 controller, while highlighting the text field, to make a text message to send to your friends. The message is displayed to all participants in the area directly above the text field.

  Press the "Circle" button to leave the chat room.
