How to Make a PS3 Faster Online Using Tethering

As of this writing, wireless carriers' newest and fastest network is 4G. This network offers blazing speeds that rival broadband connections that many have in their homes. When it comes to tethering, a word used when other devices share another device's Internet, the Sony PS3 can play games, download data and browse the Internet at speeds of up to 12 Mbps. This makes it much faster than the 1.4 Mbps maximum speed for 3G connections.

  Hold the "Power" button of the MiFI device until it turns on. A green LED light flashes to signal that it has powered on.

  Select the "Settings" tab on the PS3 menu. Select the "Network Settings" sub tab on the next screen.

  Select "Internet Connection Settings" from the next screen. Select "Yes" to temporarily disconnect your PS3's Internet access.

  Select "Easy" as the settings method on the next screen. Select "Wireless" from the next screen that appears.

  Select "Scan" to have the PS3's Wi-Fi antenna search for the MiFi 4G hotspot.

  Turn the MiFi 4G device over and you will see the connection name and password. Select the connection name from the list of available access points on the PS3 screen.

  Select "WEP" security setting and enter in the password you see on the back of the MiFi device. Select "Save Settings" to update the PS3 Internet settings. Now when you use tethering with your PS3, it will be much faster than 3G.
