How to Hook Up a Wireless Connection on the Sony PS3 PlayStation

Sony launched several different version and packages of the PS3 with varying hard drive sizes, console appearances and other features. For instance, some consoles came with wireless Internet capabilities while others did not. If your console includes Wi-Fi, then the PS3 has the ability to connect to a wireless access point, allowing you to log in to the PlayStation Network. Use the system's Internet connection setup wizard to configure your wireless settings.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the PS3, unplug any Ethernet cable from the rear of the console and turn it back on.

    • 2

Push "PS" on your controller. The XrossMediaBar opens.

    • 3

      Scroll left to "Settings."

    • 4

      Select "Network Settings."

    • 5

Scroll to "Internet Connection" and choose "Enabled."

    • 6

Choose "Internet Connection Settings" and select "Yes" to confirm.

    • 7

Select "Easy." This option allows the console to automatically configure many of your wireless connection settings.

    • 8

Select "Wireless" and select "Scan." The console scans for wireless access points in range and displays a results list. The console also lists each access point's password settings, security settings and signal strength.

    • 9

Choose your desired access point from the list.

    • 10

Push in the right direction on the left thumb stick. The console automatically highlights the access point's security settings. Press "X." A keyboard appears on the screen.

    • 11

Enter the access point's password and push "Start." Press "X" and the system saves your connection settings.
