How to Get a Playstation 3 to Work After It Has Been Hooked up With an HDMI Cable

The Sony PlayStation 3 gaming system, or PS3, can connect to your TV in multiple ways, including using standard or high-definition cables. The highest quality HD connection available for the PS3 is the HDMI cable, using a single connection in the back of both the PS3 and your TV. The HDMI cable uses both an HD video and audio connection, which must be configured upon first use. If you previously used a different TV cable to connect the PS3, the settings must be reset and the PS3 restarted.

Instructions

    • 1

      Check the HDMI cable connections to both the PS3 and the TV, to make sure the cable isn̵7;t loose.

    • 2

      Change the video input setting on your TV to match the HDMI connection. For instance, if the input on your TV where the PS3 HDMI cable is connected says ̶0;HDMI 2,̶1; change the TV setting to the ̶0;HDMI 2̶1; input.

    • 3

      Turn off the PS3, if it is still on. Once the power is off, press the PS3 power button for 5 seconds to reset the video and audio settings. If done correctly, there will be a short beep. The PS3 screen will start up on your TV.

    • 4

      Click ̶0;Settings,̶1;̶0;Display Settings̶1; then ̶0;Video Output Settings.̶1;

    • 5

      Choose the HDMI option from the list, and then select the video resolution that matches your TV's capabilities -- such as 1080p, 1080i, 720p or 480p. Most times, the PS3 will automatically detect your TV̵7;s best resolution setting. Check your TV manual for more information about its resolution capabilities.

    • 6

      Navigate the PS3 menu to ̶0;Settings,̶1; ̶0;Sound Settings̶1; then ̶0;Audio Output Settings.̶1;

    • 7

      Choose ̶0;HDMI̶1; from the list. Choose the audio output format from the list that matches your TV and sound system. If you are not sure what settings to choose, choose ̶0;Automatic.̶1;
