How to Connect Speakers to a TV and PS3 with HDMI

A set of surround sound speakers can complement the high-definition entertainment capabilities of the Sony PlayStation 3. With the use of an HDMI cable, the PS3 can put out digital surround sound audio as well as 1080p high-definition video. An Audio/Video receiver will allow you to connect both your TV and your PS3 to a speaker system.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your PS3 by switching off the power switch on the back of the console and unplugging it from the power outlet. Turn off and unplug your TV as well.

    • 2

Connect the speakers to your AV receiver. Depending on the AV receiver you have, this process may vary. Most receivers have red and black slots for the positive and negative terminals of each individual speaker wire that clamp onto the cable ends. Refer to your AV receiver̵7;s instruction manual for more information on how to setup speakers.

    • 3

Insert one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the back of the PS3 console and the other end into an HDMI input port on your AV receiver.

    • 4

Connect another HDMI cable to the HDMI output port on the AV receiver and an HDMI input port on your TV. This will allow the HD video signal from your PS3 to pass through the receiver to your TV.

    • 5

Turn on your PS3 and TV and change the TV's input to HDMI. Your TV will have either an "Input" or "Video" button on the remote to change the input channels. If your TV has multiple HDMI inputs, make sure you tune to the one to which your PS3 is connected.
