Power off all electronic devices connected to the surround sound system.
Plug in the digital audio optical cable to the PS3 optical output. The optical output can be found at the rear of the PS3 unit. Connect the optical cable to the optical input of the AV receiver. Connect a second optical cable to the AV receiver's optical output and plug into your HDTV's optical input, which is located on the back of the HDTV.
Connect the HD video cables from the PS3 video output to the HDTV video input. This will only provide the video. The sound will come from the AV receiver.
Insert the HDMI cable into the Blu-Ray player's HDMI output port and connect it to the AV receiver's HDMI input port. Connect a second HDMI cable to the AV receiver's HDMI output port and the HDTV's HDMI input port.
Turn on power to all electronic devices.
Boot up the PS3 and adjust the audio options by going into "Settings," then "Sound Settings." From there, select "Audio Output Settings." Select the "Optical" option, which will tell your PS3 to transmit signals through the AV receiver.
Press the "O" button to go back to "Sound Settings." Select "Audio Formats," then select your surround system format (Dolby 5.1, DTS 5.1, 7.1).
Turn on your Blu-Ray player and go into the sound settings. Select the same surround system format you chose for the PS3.
Program your remote control to toggle between video inputs for the PS3 and Blu-Ray player.
