Can I Get the Downloadable Content if I Get a PlayStation Network Game?

The PlayStation Network (PSN) is a free online subscription service provided to gamers on the PlayStation 3 console. Through this service, players can connect with others to compete and cooperate in certain games. Additionally, the PlayStation Network grants access to the PlayStation Store, where you can download videos, customizations for your PS3 browser, extended content for your games and even complete titles.
  1. PS3 Game Downloads

    • A number of PlayStation 3 titles are available in the PlayStation Store on the PSN. You can download these games in full to your hard drive. The files are very large, so you will need to use your own discretion when selecting games to download. Once a title has been purchased, you can delete it and download it again later, as long as you are using the same PSN account. Many of these games offer new costumes, levels and other expansions through DLC, which can be downloaded through the PlayStation Store.

    PS3 Discs

    • Unlike the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 does not offer a direct option to install games to your hard drive from the discs. Downloadable content, however, is still available for many of these games. On the PlayStation Network, you can purchase and download additional content for one of your games, and the data will be stored on your hard drive. When you insert the disc and load the game, the downloadable content will be accessible during gameplay.

    PSOne Game Downloads

    • The PlayStation Network also offers reissues of titles that were once popular for the original PlayStation, now known as the PSOne. While the library is not complete, the network offers a comprehensive cross-section of popular titles from the console's era. These titles are direct ports of the originals, however, so there is not any downloadable content available beyond the original contents of the game.

    PSN-Exclusive Game Downloads

    • The PlayStation Network also offers titles which have not been previously released on discs and as such, they are exclusive to the download store. These games are generally on a smaller scale in terms of both graphics and duration than their PlayStation 3 brethren, but many of the titles still offer downloadable content to expand the gameplay. You can directly access this content by selecting the "Downloadable Content" or "DLC" option from the game's main menu, which will lead you to the appropriate menu in the PlayStation Store.
