How to Mod Patch Files on the PS3

Softmodding is a hacker-community term that refers to just about any operating system modification process done to your Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) device. Softmod applications are often compiled as a group of patch files, commonly referred to as ̶0;Homebrews.̶1; These Homebrew patch file packages are designed to allow you to do a number of different things with your PS3 device, from playing games from other gaming systems to file transfer to your computer. The process of modding or loading patch file packages to your PS3 is fairly straightforward.

      Download the patch file package file folder onto your computer.

      Plug the USB storage drive into the USB port on your computer. A folder for the USB drive will automatically appear on your computer desktop.

      Drag-and-drop the patch file folder into the USB storage drive folder, then remove the USB drive from your computer.

      Insert the USB drive into the first USB port on your PS3 console, then scroll to the ̶0;Install Packages̶1; option in the XMB main menu using your game controller. You will then see the patch file package on the USB storage drive appear on the screen.

      Select the package listing using your controller, then press the ̶0;X̶1; button to begin the install.
