How to Clean the Analog Sticks on a PS3 Controller

Consoles have come a long way from the one-button joystick that came with Atari consoles in the 1980s, to the current PlayStation 3 (PS3) controller. The PS3 controller employs four buttons on the top of the controller, four on the right side of the controller, and two analog sticks to give you complete control. After excessive playing, your analog sticks tend to get dirty or greasy, especially if you've been eating pizza during that late night gaming session. If this happens, you can take measures to clean it out.

Instructions

    • 1

Dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol, but don't have it saturated to the point where it is dripping.

    • 2

Wipe the cotton swab on the side and bottom of the analog sticks. You'll probably need more than one, especially if it's been awhile since you've cleaned them and need to get oil buildup off.

    • 3

Dry the controller completely with a cloth before using.
