How to Hook Up a PS3 to an Older Philips Magnavox

Older Philips Magnavox TVs may not have today's technology to display video in life-like high-definition resolutions as LED, LCD and plasma TVs do, but they can still be used for PlayStation 3 gaming. Older Magnavox TVs display video in standard, 480p resolutions; however, if this is all you have to play your gaming console, knowing how to hook it up to your TV may make it just as enjoyable.

Instructions

Using an AV Cable

  Attach the AV connector on the cable to the AV port on the back of your PS3 gaming system.

  Connect the yellow, red and white plugs on the cable to the "VIDEO IN connector" ports on your TV. The connector ports are color-coded, so match them. The yellow port is for video and the red and white ports are for audio connections.

  Turn on your TV, then turn on your PS3 gaming console. Press the "Input" button on your remote control to select the input you connected the game to. The XMB menu is displayed on the screen.
Using S-video Cable

  Attach the AV connector on the cable to the AV port on the back of your PS3 gaming system.

  Connect the "S-VIDEO" pin on the cable to the "S-VIDEO IN" connector on your Philips Magnavox TV, then connect the red and white audio pins to the red and white audio ports on the "S-VIDEO IN" connector on your TV.

  Turn on your TV, then turn on your PS3 gaming console. Press the "Input" button on your remote control to select the input you connected the game to. The XMB menu is displayed on the screen.
