How to Hook Up an S-Video Cable to a PS3

S-Video, or Separate Video, is a standard-definition video connection supported by the PlayStation 3 (PS3). An S-Video connection is common among older, standard-definition TVs and is also available on select HDTVs. Although it is similar to a Composite AV connection (the other standard-definition connection supported by the PS3), you might notice a sharper image while using an S-Video connection. It often depends on your TV. Hooking up an S-Video cable to the PS3 is similar to connecting the supplied Composite AV cable.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the rectangular side of the S-Video cable into the "AV Multi Out" port on the back of the PS3.

    • 2

Connect the gray prong into the "S-Video" port on the TV, then connect the white and red prongs into the corresponding "white" and "red" audio ports next to the S-Video port.

    • 3

Change the TV to its "S-Video" video mode. Some TVs may refer to this as Video or Input. Press the "Power" button on the front of the PS3 to turn it on.
