How to Get a PS3 to Revert Back to a Non-HDMI

The PlayStation 3 has the ability to recognize several types of video cables, including composite or HDMI. When reverting to a new cable on your PS3 after using HDMI, you run into a blank screen after trying to power on the system. This occurs when the PS3 tries to draw its video source from the non-existent HDMI cable connection. Reset the video output settings so your console automatically detects the new cable.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold "Power" until the system beeps to shut off the PS3, if applicable. Release "Power." The green light on the front of the console changes to red, indicating the console is in standby mode.

    • 2

Hold "Power" again and wait for the system to turn on and beep twice. Release "Power" after the second beep. A prompt displays on the television indicating the video output settings have been reset.

Follow the PS3's on-screen video output prompts to finish setting up your display options.
