How to Read Messages and Play Online on the PS3

The PlayStation 3 gaming console allows users to not only play their favorite video games, it also has features such as Internet browsing, picture sharing, video streaming and music playback. Since the PS3 is connected via Ethernet or Wi-Fi, players and friends worldwide can message each other and play games online. Whether you receive a game invite message or a friend request message, you can view them all in your PS3 message box.

Instructions

Read Messages

  Turn on your PS3 console by pressing the "Power" button located on the front of the console. In the main menu, scroll to "Friends" icon located on the far-right side of the main menu.

  Press the "x" button on your controller to select the "Messages" option. In the sub-menu, click on the "Received" icon to view all the messages your friends have sent you.

  Scroll through the list until you find the message you want to read. Press the "x" button on your PS3 controller to open the message and reveal the text.
Play Online Games

  Power on your PS3 console by pressing the "Power" button located on the front of the console. In the main menu, scroll over to the "PlayStation Network" icon located in the far-right of the menu screen.

  Scroll up to the "Sign In" icon and press "x" to select. You will need to sign into your PSN account using your Sign-In ID (E-mail Address) and password. Press the "Sign In" button to log into PSN.

  Launch your game by scrolling to the "Game" icon on the main menu and going down and selecting the game disc icon. Once you are in your game's main menu screen, you should see a multiplayer option or something similar that allows you to play online with other players worldwide.
