How to Network a PS3 to an Inspiron 1525

If you have digital media files on your Dell Inspiron 1525 computer that you'd like to be able to access on your PlayStation 3, you can do so by creating a media server connection. This involves networking the two devices together using native tools present in each. On the PlayStation 3, you will have to enable a setting, while on the Inspiron 1525 you will have to use Windows Media Player.

      Connect both the PlayStation 3 and the Inspiron 1525 to the same wired or wireless network. If you have a wired network in your home, connect each device to your network router using an Ethernet cable. If you have a wireless network, connect each device to the same wireless network. Select "Network Settings" from the PlayStation 3 menu to set up a network connection. Select the "Wireless" icon from the task bar of the Inspiron 1525 to connect to a wireless network.

      Enable media streaming on your Inspiron 1525. Click "Start," "Control Panel" and "Network and Sharing Center." Click "Change Advanced Sharing Settings." Click "Choose Media Streaming Options" and "Turn on Media Streaming." The Inspiron 1525 is configured to stream media to other devices on your network, such as the PlayStation 3.

      Enable the media server functionality of the PlayStation 3. Select "Settings" from the menu and choose "Network Settings." Select "Media Server Connection" and choose the "Enable" option. Your PlayStation 3 can now receive streaming content from your Inspiron 1525.
