How to Hook Up the Ribbon for the PS3 Blu-ray Player

The PlayStation 3 game console not only plays video game discs but it also plays Blu-ray discs. The disc drive in your PS3 connects to the mainboard via a thick ribbon cable. If you have recently removed the disc drive in the PS3, the first thing you'll need to do in order to hook it back up is to connect the ribbon cable.

  Open the top case of the PS3 if it is not disassembled already. To do this, remove the screw on the left side of the top of the console. Slide the top casing of the console off the unit to reveal a metal panel covering the internal components. Remove all screws on the panel and remove the panel to expose the area where the Blu-ray drive goes.

  Locate the wide rectangular port in the lower-right corner of the motherboard. This is where the ribbon cable on the Blu-ray drive plugs into.

  Plug the ribbon cable that runs from the back of the Blu-ray drive into the port on the motherboard.

  Fit the Blu-ray drive into the PS3 housing and replace the top panel, screws and outer casing of the PS3.
