How to Connect a PS3 to an HD2 Hotspot

Your HD2 can access the Internet using just its 3G network connection, and it can even use that access to get other devices online by broadcasting its own wireless hotspot. This hotspot can get devices online that are Wi-Fi enabled, including a PlayStation 3. You can set up your hotspot in just a few minutes, and as long as you have a strong 3G signal, you should even be able to play multiplayer games and browse the PlayStation Store on your console.

Instructions

  1. Set Up the Hotspot

    • 1

Press the "Home" button or the "End call" button on your phone to reach the "Home" screen.

    • 2

Press the "Start" button. This button is in the center of your phone just below the display.

    • 3

Tap "Wi-Fi Router" to reach the router screen. If you've never set up the router feature, the phone will give you some introductory information now; tap "Next" to continue.

    • 4

Type a name for the hotspot in the "Network name" section. You can call it anything you want.

    • 5

Type a 10-digit WEP key. This key will be the password you'll use to connect your PS3 to the hotspot, so make sure you write it down.

    • 6

Select the connection name that your phone is using right now for access to the Internet. Your phone most likely is using "3G" or "GPRS." If you only have one available option, just select that one.

    • 7

Tap the "Start" button on your phone's screen. The hotspot will begin broadcasting in just a moment.

    Connect to the Hotspot

    • 8

Go to the "Settings" section of the XMB menu on your PS3. This is the second option from the left, just after "Users."

    • 9

      Select "Network Settings."

    • 10

Select "Internet Connection Settings," and then select "Yes" when your PS3 informs you that any existing Internet connections will now be disabled.

    • 11

Select "Easy," then "Wireless," then "Scan." Wait a moment while your PS3 attempts to locate nearby hotspots.

    • 12

Select your HD2's hotspot using the name you chose when you set up the network. If you don't see the hotspot, you can try scanning again or perhaps moving the phone closer to the PS3.

    • 13

Select "WEP" when your PS3 prompts you for the "WLAN Security Setting."

    • 14

Enter the 10-digit WEP key you typed into your phone.

    • 15

Press the "X" button on your controller or remote when your PS3 displays the "Settings List." This saves the settings for the connection.

    • 16

Select "Test Connection." This isn't strictly required for completing the setup, but it can give you helpful information about your Internet access, such as the current availability of the PlayStation Network and estimates for download and upload speeds.

    • 17

Press the circle button on your controller or remote when the connection test completes and displays its results.
