How to Use Someone Else's PS3 Controller With Your PS3

Each PlayStation 3 controller must be paired, or synchronized, with the PS3 console before you can use it. After pairing the controller to the PS3 once, it will be assigned to that PS3. If you want to use someone else's controller with your console, it must be manually paired to your PS3 as it is already assigned to the other person's PS3. Up to seven controllers can be paired to a console simultaneously.

     Turn off the PS3. Connect the controller to the PS3 using the USB cable.

     Press the "PS" button on the controller to begin pairing the controller with the console.

     Wait until the four lights on the shoulder of the controller stop blinking. Disconnect the controller from the USB cable to use it wirelessly or leave it connected to charge. Repeat this process to pair additional controllers.
