How to Change Ports on Router for PS3

Sony's PlayStation 3 gaming console uses Universal Plug-and-Play ("UPnP") to automatically configure port settings on your router for the PS3. Users who have the "UPnP" function disabled must manually change the ports on the router in order for the PS3 to properly connect to its online functions.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the router's IP address on the sticker at the bottom of the router or within the user guide. Type this address into the URL address bar of your Web browser to access the configuration page.

    • 2

Enter the router's username and password when prompted. This information can also be found where the IP address is located.

    • 3

Navigate to your router's "Advanced Setup" page. Click on the link or tab to the "Port Forwarding" section.

    • 4

Select the IP address currently used by the PS3 and enter the desired port number into the "Start" and "End" boxes. Enter the same number in both boxes if you are forwarding only one port; otherwise, enter the lowest desired port number in the "Start" box and the highest number to end the range in the "End" box. Select the protocol type of the ports you are forwarding (UDP, TCP or "Both").

    • 5

Click "Save Settings" to finalize your changes. Reset the router if necessary. You may also need to refresh your PS3's network settings in order for the new settings to take effect.
