How to Rank Up in GTA IV

The online mode in the game "Grand Theft Auto IV" ("GTA IV") allows you to rank up your character as you cut a swath of destruction across Liberty City. You rank up in "GTA IV" by performing a variety of tasks, each emulating certain missions in the regular single-player game. You will take the skills and techniques you learned offline and put them to good work by leveling up online.

  Kill as many enemies as possible. Just like during the single-player game, when you kill enemies in "Grand Theft Auto IV" online, you get to take the money they were carrying. Every dollar you earn goes toward increasing your rank in the online multiplayer world. Kill more and more enemies to take their money and increase your rank. Just remember -- when you die, you lose your money to your assailant.

  Earn money by winning races. In the ranked "Street Racing" mode of the "Grand Theft Auto IV" multiplayer component you earn money based on your position in the race. If you finish first, for example, you may be rewarded with a few thousand dollars that goes toward increasing your rank. Always try to finish with the highest possible position in a race to increase your rank.

  Earn money by completing one of the "challenge" modes, like "Car Jack City." In "Car Jack City," you have to travel around Liberty City and steal certain types of cars from certain locations. Each type of car you steal earns you a specified amount of money. The more cars you steal, the more money you earn and the higher your rank climbs in the online component of the game.
