How to Hook up a Dualshock3 to the PS3

Unlike previous Playstation gaming systems, PS3's wireless Dualshock3 controllers don't offer the distance restrictions and limitations wired controllers offer, which means you can play games or control your device from any part of the room. PS3 can support up to seven wireless controllers at one time. To use your controller, you must pair it with your gaming system. This process allows both units to communicate. Pairing your controller with your gaming console takes minutes to complete.

  Turn on your PS3; then turn on your TV.

  Connect one end of the USB cable into the USB port on the front of your Dualshock3 controller; then connect the other end to an open USB port on your PS3.

  Press the "PS" button on your controller to assign a number to it. The four port indicators on your controller begin to flash. The controller is automatically assigned a number when the port indicator for a specific number turns solid red. For example, if the first port indicator turns solid red, the controller is recognized as "Controller one." The solid red light assigned to a port number indicates that the two devices have been paired.
