How to Reset Your PS3 After HDMI Use

Whether you're moving your PlayStation 3 to a new television, or simply switching out audio/video cords, it is easy to reset your PS3 after HDMI use. Since switching televisions or cables can result in a black screen, you may not be able to access the video settings tab on your PlayStation 3. For this reason, Sony created a simple process to help you reset your video settings. This simple reset function makes the PlayStation 3 portable and convenient to hook up.

Instructions

    • 1

Detach the HDMI cable from the HDMI slots on both your PS3 and television.

    • 2

Insert the colored prongs of the PS3 component A/V cable into the corresponding ports on the back of your television. Insert the opposite end of the cable into the "AV MULTI OUT" port on the back of your console.

    • 3

Change the channel on your television to coordinate with the audio/video input channel. Look for a label above the A/V ports, and use this label to find the correct input channel. For example, if the label reads "Video 2," change your television to the "Video 2" channel.

    • 4

Power down the console by holding the power button for five seconds until you hear a beep. Wait five more seconds for the PS3 to finish shutting down.

    • 5

Hold the power button again for five seconds. Your console will initialize the reset process, and the PS3 screen will appear on your television.
