How to Deactivate a PS3 Account Online

The PlayStation 3 gaming console is a multi-media device that allows users to play video games, listen to music, share photos and more. Connecting your PlayStation 3 console with the PlayStation Network -- which allows you to play video games online, browse the Web and shop the PlayStation store -- you can deactivate your PS3 account with a few clicks of the button on your controller. You can reactivate your PS3 account following similar steps, choosing the "Activate" instead of "Deactivate."

  Turn on your console.

  Scroll over to the "PlayStation Network" icon and select "Sign-In" by pressing "X."

  Enter your sign-In ID (e-mail address) and password. It will take several seconds for your console to establish a connection with the PlayStation Network (PSN).

  Click on "Account Management."

  Scroll down and select the "System Activation." On the next menu, select "PS3 System." A pop-up window will appear with the options "Game" and "Video."

  Select what type of content you would like to deactivate with your PS3 account. If you would like to cease your online game usage, select "Game." If you would like to cancel your video-streaming abilities, select "Video."

  Click "Deactivate System" to finalize the deactivation of your PS3 account.
