Examine the audio cables that are connected to the back of your PlayStation 3 and to your television set. Each cable should be firmly plugged into the inputs on the back of each device. If a cable is loose on one end -- either on the back of the TV or the back of the console -- this could potentially cause a loud humming or buzzing noise whenever the cable is in use. Push each cable in firmly.
Replace your audio cable. One sign of an audio cable that is slowly dying is a loud buzzing noise coming from either your TV's speakers or your home theater speakers (whichever is applicable). Go to the store and purchase an identical cable. Turn off your TV and PS3 and unplug the old cable, replacing it with the new one. Turn both devices back on to see if the problem is fixed.
Verify that the buzzing noise isn't a part of the game you're playing or the movie you're watching. If you pause the game or movie and the buzzing stops, the sound is likely part of the content you are playing. If the buzzing only appears during a specific level of the game or a specific scene in the movie, and appears in no other game or movie, it is likely a part of the content you're watching.
Go into the PlayStation 3's "Settings" menu and verify that your settings are correct. Go to the "Audio" settings menu and make sure the proper type of audio cable is selected. If you're using an optical audio cable, but have "HDMI" selected on your PS3's "Settings" menu, for example, this could cause the buzzing noise when you try to play games or watch movies.
