Move your 2Wire wireless router as close to your PlayStation 3 as you can get it. The signal strength of a wireless network will degrade over long distances, so moving your router even 10 feet closer to your PlayStation 3 will result in a noticeable increase in speed during online games.
Update your 2Wire's firmware on a regular basis. Visit the product support page at Pace.com (the company that makes 2Wire routers) and search for your router by model number. The model number is printed on a label on the bottom of the router. Download and install the latest firmware updates and reboot your 2Wire router to allow it to work faster with your PlayStation 3.
Type "192.168.1.254" into your Web browser. Press "Enter" to load your 2Wire router's settings page. If you have assigned a password to this page, enter the password into the box on screen. This password will have been manually set by the user, which means you should know it. Select the "Wireless" settings icon and make sure "uPnP" is enabled. This is a feature that allows the router to more effectively communicate with consoles like the PlayStation 3.
