How Do I Play Rockband on PS3 With Only 2 USB Ports?

All four of the instruments for the PlayStation 3 version of "Rock Band" (including two guitars, a drum kit and a microphone) connect to your console via their own USB cables. The problem is that the PlayStation 3 only has two USB inputs on the front of the case. The makers behind the game have released a special adapter to go along with the game that allows you to play all of your "Rock Band" instruments regardless of the amount of USB inputs on the actual gaming console.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a PlayStation 3 USB hub from a store like Gamestop, Best Buy or online. These hubs operate identically to USB hubs designed for the PC, allowing you to use more USB devices than the console is actually capable of on its own. The makers of "Rock Band" have produced an official hub while other, third-party manufacturers have also released their own versions.

    • 2

Insert the cable to the USB hub into either of the USB inputs on the front of your PlayStation 2. It doesn't matter which one you use, as the console will recognize the USB hub from either input.

    • 3

Connect the USB cables from your guitars, microphone and drum kit to the USB inputs on the USB hub. The PlayStation 3 will now be able to recognize all devices and the game itself will allow you to use all instruments simultaneously, should you so choose.
