How to Swich the HDMI From a PS3

If you've got an HDTV and a PlayStation 3, the best way to connect the two devices is with an HDMI cable. HDMI is the only way you can experience 1080p Blu-rays and other high-definition content present in PlayStation 3 formatted games. HDMI is not the default selected video output method, however, so you will have to switch your console over to this option via the "Settings" menu.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn on your PS3.

    • 2

      Open the "Settings" drop-down menu.

    • 3

Highlight and select "BD / DVD Video Output Format (HDMI)" from the menu. Select "Automatic" from the list of options on screen. Press the "Circle" button to return to the "Settings" menu.

    • 4

Highlight and select "BD 1080p 24 Hz Output (HDMI)" from the menu. Select "On" from the list of options on screen. Press the "Circle" button to return to the "Settings" menu.

    • 5

Select "BD / DVD Audio Output Format (HDMI)" from the menu. Choose "Bitstream" if your PlayStation 3 is connected to a home theater receiver. Select "Linear PCM" if your PlayStation 3 is connected directly to your TV. Your PlayStation 3 is now configured to properly use your HDMI cable.
