How to Gain Strength in Demon's Souls

"Demon's Souls" is a multiplayer and community-driven game exclusive to the Sony PlayStation 3. In mixing fantasy and role-playing elements, players can elect to upgrade various stats that determine how their character fights and defends himself. For example, you can give your character more strength for higher melee damage and for the ability to wear heavier, more defensive armor. The only way to give your character more strength is to purchase it from the Maiden in Black.

Instructions

    • 1

Defeat the Phalanx in World 1-1. This is the boss of the level, and the Maiden in Black will not appear until this task is completed. Once defeated, a portal will appear giving you the option to transport back to the Nexus. Press "X" to return to the Nexus.

    • 2

Walk up to the Maiden in Black. As her name suggests, she is a woman clad in black attire. When you first go to the Nexus, she is near your spawn point. In subsequent visits to the Nexus, she can always be found near the archstones.

    • 3

Press "X" to initiate conversation with the Maiden in Black. After she asks you if you wish to upgrade your powers, a menu will appear. Select the first option to open a list of your stats. By default, "Strength" is highlighted.

Press "X" to upgrade your strength. Do this as often as you wish until you cannot afford them anymore. Upgrades cost a fixed number of souls per action. The cost of souls is displayed on the upper right-hand corner and the amount of souls you have is listed above your stats.
