How to Lock a PS3

Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3) gaming console has an on-board parental lock system that lets you control the type of content the system can and cannot play. If you have young kids, for example, you could lock the console's ability to play anything above an "E" rated game or a "G" rated movie. This lock can be turned on and off based on your preferences from the system's main menu.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn on your PlayStation 3.

    • 2

      Open the console's "Settings" menu.

    • 3

      Select "Security Settings."

    • 4

Choose the "Parental Control" option. Select the "ON" option and choose the level of control you want to use to lock your PlayStation 3. The levels range from 1 to 11, and lower-numbered levels feature less parental locks while higher-numbered levels feature more parental locks. For example, if you choose the level "11" lock, users will only be able to play "E" rated games.

Press "Circle" on the controller to save your lock settings and exit the menu.
