How to Install a HDMI Cable on a PS3 and Get It to Work

The Sony PlayStation 3 is designed to provide high quality graphics and sound. To exploit this feature, Sony made the system compatible with high definition televisions through the use of the HDMI cable. Available at any electronics store, you can purchase the official Sony HDMI cord or a generic one. There is essentially no difference between the two. Buying and installing an HDMI is recommended, because it provides the best visual and audio features possible on the PS3.

Plug in your PS3. Attach one end of the power cord to its corresponding socket on the back of the console, labeled "AC IN." Insert the three-pronged end of the power cord into a nearby electrical outlet. Do not turn on your system yet.

Install the HDMI cord. Both ends of the cord are identical. Insert one end of the cord into the port at the back of the console, labeled "HDMI OUT." Plug the other end into your high definition television's HDMI slot, which should also be labeled accordingly.

Configure the HDMI cable. Upon turning on your console, a screen appears, informing you that an HDMI connection was detected. The system automatically sets the high definition output to the best resolution possible. Then a message appears, asking if you wish to keep this setting. Use the left analog stick to scroll over the "Yes" option, and press "X" to select it. Your PS3 is now set up for high definition.
