How to Switch a PS3 RCA to HDMI

The PlayStation 3 offers a variety of video output options. RCA connection cables are used for low definition video output. If you have an HD-ready television, you can switch your RCA connection to an HDMI cable. Switching from RCA to HDMI will allow you to display higher resolutions on your television.

Instructions

    • 1

      Disconnect your PlayStation 3 RCA cable from the back of your PlayStation and your television.

      Connect the HDMI cable to the port on the back of the PS3 labeled "HDMI."

      Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to an available HDMI port on the back of your television.

      Turn on your television and your PlayStation 3.

      Use the controller to scroll down and highlight "Settings," then press the "X" button.

      Scroll down and highlight "Display Settings" and press the "X" button.

      Select the "HDMI" input connector and press the "Start" button. Press "X" to confirm your selection when prompted.

      Highlight "Yes" and press the "X" button to again confirm the settings change.

      Highlight all resolutions supported by your television and press the "Start" button.

      Highlight "Yes" and press the "X" button to confirm the resolutions.

      Select your type of television and press the "Start" button.

      Highlight "Yes" and press the "X" button to save your video output settings.
