How to Boost My Wi-Fi Signal for PS3

The Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) has a built in wireless local area network (LAN) feature allowing it connect to your homes Wi-Fi connection easily. Unfortunately many things can affect the Wi-Fi performance in a home, thus limiting the signal and speed that the PS3 will have. To improve the Wi-Fi performance in your home and your PS3, you must know how to properly set up your router and PS3 to have an optimal connection. Once you have set up your Wi-Fi correctly, you can not only expect improved signal to the PS3 but all your other Wi-Fi devices.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the router in a central location in the house. Preferably move the router to as close as possible to the PS3. This will be the biggest boost to the Wi-Fi signal to the PS3.

    • 2

Move the router away from any walls and metal objects. Routers wireless signal will suffer when it is close to metal objects.

    • 3

Install a wireless repeater in the halfway point between the router and the PS3. Place the wireless repeater in an outlet and let it turn on. Go to the computer and install the installation disc that came with the repeater and follow the onscreen instructions to successfully activate the wireless repeater. Wireless repeaters are sold under other names include range extenders or a range expander.

Visit the website of the manufacturer of your wireless router and look for any firmware updates for your router. Follow the routers manufacturers instructions on how to update the firmware.

    • 5

Turn on your PS3 and check to see if you noticed increased Wi-Fi signal. If not, you might need to install another wireless repeater between the previous wireless repeater and your PS3.
