The Best PS3 Console Ratings

With myriad games released for the PlayStation3 since its release in 2006, many video game publications in print and on the Internet have evaluated and rated every single one. The website Gamerankings.com gathers and accumulates ratings from all of its known publications and calculates an overall score from them. Gamerankings.com lists the following games as the top-ten rated for the PS3 across gaming publications as of May 2011.
  1. 1: Grand Theft Auto 4

    • This entry in the gangster series tells the story of Niko Bellic, an immigrant from Europe, who hopes for better opportunity in Liberty City. Despite his expectations, he finds himself working in the criminal underworld, against swindlers and other violent parties. The game follows the series' basic gameplay theme of exploring a realistically-detailed city and carjacking.

    2: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

    • In this sequel, Nathan Drake seeks the lost city of Shambhala, following the secret expedition of Marco Polo. In classic action/adventure fashion, the player must traverse hazardous indoor and outdoor environments and engage in gun fights against his violent competitors.

    3: Red Dead Redemption

    • The Western-themed epic "Red Dead Redemption" tells the story of John Marston, who seeks redemption from his past. From the creators of "Grand Theft Auto," the game shares the same sort of "open world" game design.

    4: LittleBigPlanet

    • "LittleBigPlanet" controls like a sidescrolling platformer, although with planes of platforms for a three-dimensional aspect. The game allows users to create levels and level objects to share with other gamers.

5: LittleBigPlanet: Game of the Year Edition

    • The re-release of "LittleBigPlanet" features extra content, including eighteen new levels. It also contains the animal, monster, and history costume packs previously available for download only.

    6: Portal 2

    • "Portal 2" continues the puzzle-solving theme and story of the original "Portal." Players must navigate through levels using a "portal gun," which can shoot an entry point against one surface and an exit point at another.

    7: BioShock

    • The first-person shooter (FPS) "BioShock" takes the player through an underwater city called Rapture as the survivor of a plane crash. Along the way, the player gains abilities through gene-splicing while battling against the denizens of Rapture, who suffer insanity from gene-splicing side-effects.

8: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

    • The finale of the "Metal Gear" saga, "Metal Gear Solid 4" tells the story of the aging Solid Snake as he seeks to foil a plot in the midst of a war-torn world. The gameplay involves the series theme of stealth, this time through loud battlefields, with a heavily-cinematic presentation.

9: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

    • For the first time, the "Call of Duty" FPS series puts the player in a variety of modern warfare situations to combat a rogue terrorist group. The player controls both a U.S. Marine and British S.A.S. soldier in land and air strikes, for intense indoor and outdoor shooting warfare.

    10: Street Fighter 4

    • "Street Fighter 4" brings back characters from "Street Fighter 2" and the "Street Fighter Alpha" series. The game features classic two-dimensional, one-on-one fighting gameplay rendered in detailed 3-D graphics.
