How to Sign Up for the PS3 Network

The Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) is a home console released in Japan and North America in 2006. The PS3 allowed players to create an online PlayStation Network account for the first time in the PlayStation console line. An account is not required to play games on the PS3, but you will need an account to purchase games digitally and to enjoy some of the other features the console has to offer. Creating a PS3 account takes just a few minutes and is free as of May 2011.

  Turn on your Sony PlayStation 3.

  Select "Sign up for PlayStation Network" under the "PlayStation Network" menu. Press "X" to continue.

  Choose your country, date of birth and your desired language. Press "Right" to move to the next screen. The terms of service will be displayed.

  Press "Right" again to move to the next screen. Press "X" to accept the terms.

  Type your email address and desired password in the appropriate fields.

  Type in the ID you want for your profile. This is the name that everybody will see when you are playing online.

  Type in your full name and street address.

  Select "Confirm." The account will be created.
