How to Use a Webcam on a PS3

Sony sells a webcam specifically for the PlayStation 3 (PS3), but you can use any Universal Video Class (UVC) standard webcam with the PS3. UVC cameras use standard drivers that are included in the system's firmware. They do not require you to install extra software or drivers. Once you have connected your webcam to your PS3, you can use it to take pictures and video chat.

      Verify that your webcam is UVC capable. You can look in the manual or check the manufacturer's website.

      Plug the webcam USB cable into one of the USB ports on the PS3.

      Turn the console on without a game loaded in the tray. The dashboard will load automatically.

      Scroll to the "Settings" icon, then scroll down to "Accessory Settings."

      Select "Camera Settings" to verify that the PS3 is detecting your webcam.
