How to Plug a PS3 Into a Composite Connection

While the PlayStation 3, also referred to as PS3, may be known for its high definition 1080i video output and digital audio, the console also accommodates less advanced television and audio setups. For instance, if you own a standard television, you can use the console's included composite cable to connect the console. Once properly set up, the console detects your video output upon start up and automatically configures your settings.

Instructions

    • 1

      Power off your console.

    • 2

Turn off the console's "Main Power" switch, positioned on the system's back side.

    • 3

Plug the composite cable's single end connector into the system's "AV MULTI OUT" plug-in, located on the rear above the vents.

    • 4

Plug the three-pronged end of the composite cable into the composite AV inputs on your television, being sure to plug each end into its respective color: yellow, white or red. The composite AV ports are usually labeled "Video In," "Composite" or "AV."

    • 5

Turn on your television and select the composite input. Most televisions allow you to cycle through inputs by pressing the "Input," "AV" or "Video" button on the television or remote.

    • 6

Turn the PS3's "Main Power" switch back on and press the "Power" button the front of the console. The PS3's image displays on your television. A prompt appears.

    • 7

Choose "Yes" to allow the console to automatically determine the optimal video output settings.
