Things You'll Need
Instructions
Allow the PlayStation 3 to breathe. If you keep the device so the vents on the back and side are blocked, the PlayStation will not be able to properly cool itself. Remove the PS3 from enclosed spaces such as cabinets if possible. Keep the unit off of carpeting and place it in the vertical position to assist with cooling. If the PlayStation must remain within a cabinet, leave the cabinet doors open while it is in use.
Clean the cooling vents on the sides and back of the unit. Use a can of compressed air to remove dust, dirt and other debris from the back and sides of the machine. Make sure you hold the can directly upright while spraying, otherwise you might discharge liquid, damaging electrical components. Spray the vents from a sideways angle to help prevent a large amount of dust being forced back into the machine. Clogged vents will swiftly cause the machine to overheat.
Purchase external PlayStation cooling fans to help with overheating. They fit over the PlayStation's vents and assist with air flow within the casing. This is especially important if the unit must remain inside a cabinet or other enclosed space.
