How to Install an HDMI for the PS3

The Sony PlayStation 3 comes with standard video connector cables, but can also accept an HDMI connection. HDMI offers the best format for high definition video. With an HDMI cable, the PS3 can play movies and games in 1080-pixel format. Since HDMI cables carry both audio and video signals, they also make cable management easier, with no more "hydra" growing behind your TV. Sony sells HDMI cables designed for the PS3, but any HDMI cable will work.

     Plug the HDMI and standard A/V cables into the ports on the back of the PlayStation 3. Plug the other ends of the cables into the television.

     Turn on the PS3 with no game in the tray.

     Scroll to "Settings" then down to "Display Settings." Scroll to "Video Output Settings" and select "HDMI".

     Go back to the "Settings" menu and select "Sound Settings." Change "Audio Output Settings" to "HDMI".
