How to Fix Your Server Connection on PS3

If a video or audio file that you're streaming from your computer suddenly fails mid-playback, you have an issue with the console's media server capabilities. How you will fix the issue depends on exactly what is causing it. However, no matter what the root of the problem is, you can fix it and get your streaming media back up and running again by trying a few straightforward solutions.

Instructions

Check to make sure that your PlayStation 3 is actually connected to the same wireless network that the media server is broadcasting on. Open the "Settings" and "Network Settings" options in the PlayStation 3 menu and click on "Wireless Settings." The name of the selected wireless network should be the name of the network that has the media server. If your PlayStation 3 is connected to a different network, click on the appropriate network name from the list and try the media server connection again.

Reboot your wireless network. Disconnect both your modem and wireless router from their power cables and allow them to sit for a few seconds. Plug each device back in. Turn off your PlayStation 3 and turn it back on. This process will reset the wireless network, potentially fixing the problem that was preventing you from accessing the wireless media server.

Go through the "Types of Files that Can be Played" list on the PlayStation website and make sure the file you're trying to stream is playable by the PlayStation 3. Just because your computer can handle a specific type of file like an .MKV, for example, doesn't mean your PlayStation 3 can. Any files not on the list on the PlayStation website will not be accessible via the media server connection on the console.
