How to Fix a PS3 Controller That Is Charging

Many video game consoles use Bluetooth controllers, removing the need for players to be tethered with wires to the console itself. Although you can now sit anywhere in the room to play, you face new problems. Bluetooth controllers do not sync automatically with systems like the PlayStation 3. If your controller is not connecting properly while plugged into the console and charging, you'll need to re-sync the controller before you can use it again.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the mini USB cable port into the controller's USB output port on the top of the controller.

    • 2

Connect the other end of the mini USB cable to an open port on the front of the PlayStation 3. Depending on what model of PS3 you own, you will connect to one of two or four USB ports.

    • 3

Push the "PS" button on the center of the PS3 controller. Wait as the controller syncs itself to your console. The four charging lights will remain lit.

    • 4

Disconnect the controller and push the center "PS" button. The controller's lights will blink and all but one will go out. This verifies that you have successfully synced the controller to the console, thereby fixing its connectivity problems.
