How to Use Metal Gear Solid 4 Characters in Metal Gear Online

Originally included as a setup pack with "Metal Gear Solid 4," the PlayStation 3 exclusive game "Metal Gear Online" moves the stealth-based combat system of the "Metal Gear" franchise into a multiplayer setting. Since its initial release, the game has added three expansion packs, each with new maps, skills, equipment and two characters from the original game. These characters aren't selected by the player but rather at random when a game begins. Every player must have the needed expansion in order to be selected.

Instructions

  Create a login ID with the Konami Store through the PlayStation 3 and "Metal Gear Online." Konami decided to create an online shop separate from the PlayStation Network; thus it is necessary to create a different login ID and password in order to purchase the games.

  Purchase each of the expansion packs through the Konami Store. The first pack, "Gene," adds Johnny Sasaki (Akima) and Meryl Silverburgh as playable characters. "Meme" adds Mei Ling and Liquid Ocelot. The last expansion, "Scene," includes Raiden and Vamp, and makes Old Snake available to all missions. Older expansions must be purchased and installed in order to use newer ones.

  Turn on the special characters feature before beginning a match. With the special characters function on, the characters for that expansion (Johnny/Meryl, Mei Ling/Ocelot, Raiden/Vamp) are divided between the two teams.

  Begin playing. Unlike previous "Metal Gear Online" special characters, these characters are selected randomly, with no regard given to current rankings. With the special characters turned on, you have no choice in which, if any, character you play.
