How to Install a PlayStation 3 Media Server on an HP MediaSmart

One of the many features native to Sony's PlayStation 3 is the ability to establish a media server connection with your computer. The HP MediaSmart series of computers has all of the features required to get a media server connection started. To do so, you'll just have to adjust a few basic settings on your HP MediaSmart computer and PlayStation 3 console.

Instructions

      Turn on your HP MediaSmart computer.

      Open Windows Media Player by double-clicking its icon on your desktop, or by clicking its name in the "All Programs" folder of the "Start" menu.

      Click "Library" in Windows Media Player.

      Select the "Media Sharing" tab. Check "Share My Media" and click "Apply."

      Choose "Settings" on your game console (while the console is powered on).

      Open "Network Settings."

      Highlight and select the option labeled "Media Server Connection."

      Choose "Enable." The PlayStation 3 is now capable of receiving streaming content via a media server and the HP MediaSmart is set up to broadcast that content via Windows Media Player.
