How to Show a PS3 As a Network Drive

When your PlayStation 3 is connected to your home network and configured the right way, it will appear as a network drive on your Windows-based computer. Windows can recognize the device but isn't quite sure how to classify it. You can make the PlayStation 3 display as a network drive on your home network in just a couple of minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your Sony gaming console.

    • 2

Open "Settings" in the menu. Scroll to the bottom of the options in this menu and select "Network Settings."

    • 3

Connect an Ethernet cable to both your PS3 and your network router (if applicable). If you are using a wireless connection instead of a wired one, skip this step.

    • 4

Select "Wireless Connection" if you want to set up a wireless network connection, or "Wired Connection" if you are using an Ethernet cable. Advance through the prompts on screen until you reach the "Save" option. Select "Save." If you have chosen a wireless connection, you will have to first specify which network you are accessing and provide a password (if applicable).

Turn on your computer. Click "Start." Open the "Computer" window. Your PlayStation 3 will appear as a network drive at the bottom of this window. Depending on your computer, it may appear with the label "Unidentified Device" instead of "PlayStation 3."
