How to Connect PS3 With Ethernet Plug Because of DNS Error

The DNS error on the PlayStation3 is generally caused by a conflict between the router, Internet service provider and broadband modem. Entering incorrect network settings on the PS3 can also result in a DNS error. You can remedy this problem by using a direct (Ethernet) connection from the PS3 to the broadband modem. A direct connection still allows you to connect to the PlayStation Network and is less prone to DNS errors.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the PS3. Connect the Ethernet cable into the "Ethernet Out" port on the back of the PS3. Connect the other side of the Ethernet cable into the "Internet/WAN/Data" port on the broadband modem.

    • 2

Turn on the PS3. Go to the "Settings" icon on the main menu. Scroll down, select "Network Settings" and press the "X" button.

    • 3

Scroll down to "Internet Connection," press the "X" button and select "Enabled." Scroll down to "Internet Connection Settings," press the "X" button and select "Wired."

    • 4

Select "Easy" as the setting method. The PS3 will check the network configuration. Press the "X" button. Select "Test Connection" and press the "X" button. The PS3 will use the wired connection when connecting to the PlayStation Network.
