How to Make the PS3 HDMI

All versions of PlayStation's PS3 gaming console, from the large 60 GB model to the slim 120 GB model, support the HDMI connection. HDMI is an uncompressed audio/video signal and is the highest quality video output option for the PS3. Games and other application look their best in HD and are optimized for an HDMI connection. All HDTVs include at least one HDMI port which can be used by the PS3. The PS3 does not come with an HDMI cable, although you can use any standard HDMI cable with the PS3.

Instructions

  1. HDMI Cable Installation

    • 1

      Turn off the PS3.

    • 2

Connect the HDMI cable into the "HDMI Out" port on the back of the PS3. Connect the other side of the HDMI cable into the "HDMI" port on the HDTV. Some HDTVs have more than one HDMI port. It does not matter which one you use.

    • 3

Set the HDTV to the "HDMI" display mode. If the HDTV has more than one HDMI port, the display mode must reflect the HDMI port you use. If you connected to HDMI port 3, the display mode would be "HDMI 3" or something similar. Turn the PS3 on and wait for the PS3 logo to appear.

    Video Display Settings

    • 4

Select "Yes" if you want to use the HDMI connection for audio and video.

    • 5

Select "Yes" when asked if you want to use the most optimal settings for the HDTV. The PS3 will display and apply the highest resolution (such as 720p or 1080i) available for the HDTV. Select "Yes" to use the setting. The initial setup is complete. These settings will be applied automatically when using an HDMI connection.

    • 6

Change other HD video options (such as TV type and brightness) by going to the "Settings" menu on the PS3 main menu, selecting "Display Settings" and selecting "Video Output Settings."
