How to Connect the PS3 to Vizio

Having the right game controller and connection cable, as well as the current PS3 System Software Update, allows you to connect your PlayStation 3 to your Vizio HDTV within minutes. HDMI cables are the highest standard for connecting video devices to your TV, since they are required for watching high definition videos. Vizio TV's and the PS3 are both equipped with HDMI connections, allowing you to connect the two devices through a single HDMI cable.

  Navigate to the PS3 System Update website to make sure your PlayStation 3 has the most current System Software Update installed. Click the red "Download Now" button to download the most current update.

  Turn off the power completely to both the TV and the PS3. Turn the PS3 off using the power switch on the back, and unplug the PS3 and the TV from the power outlets.

  Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the back of the TV, and plug the other end of the cable into the HDMI port on the back of the PS3. HDMI cables transfer both high-definition video and sound through one cable.

  Plug in the power cords of both the PS3 and the Vizio TV into an electrical wall outlet.

  Turn on both the Vizio and the PS3. According to PlayStation, the PS3 will automatically detect the HDMI input on the TV. Select "Yes" and press the "X" button on the wireless remote when the message, "Do you want to output video and audio using HDMI?" appears on the TV screen.

  Select "Yes" and the "X" button on the wireless controller within 30 seconds of receiving the message, "Do you accept the setting?" on the next screen, since the PS3 is automatically choosing the best resolution to display on the Vizio's TV screen. The Vizio TV is now connected to the PS3 through the HDMI cable.
