How to Get a WiFi Connection on a PS3 on a Secured Network

The bulk of the PS3's features and content reside online on the PlayStation Network. The PlayStation Network is the multiplayer matchmaking service used by multiplayer enabled games to match you up with other players online. Netflix, downloadable games and other media servers are also available on the PlayStation Network. The PS3 includes a built-in Wi-Fi adapter and can connect to most commonly used types of Wi-Fi security, such as WPA and WEP.

      Turn the PS3 on. Use the directional pad or analog stick on the PS3 controller to navigate to the "Settings" menu.

      Go down to "Network Settings" and press the "X" button. Go down to "Internet Connection,"press the "X" button and select "Enabled." Go down to "Internet Connection Settings" and press the "X" button.

      Select "Easy" and press the "X" button to establish a basic connection. Select "Wireless" as the connection type and press the "X" button.

      Select "Scan" to scan for Wi-Fi networks. Select your Wi-Fi network's SSID name (the name established when setting up the router) and press the "X" button. Press "Right" on the directional pad or analog stick to leave the default name.

      Select the type of security the Wi-Fi network uses: WEP, WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK. Press the "X" button. Enter the Wi-Fi password using the on-screen keyboard and press "Right" on the directional pad or analog stick.

      Press the "X" button to save the settings. Select "Test Connection" and press the "X" button. The PS3 will use these settings automatically when connecting online.
