How to Put Media on the PS3

All versions of the PlayStation 3 include an internal hard drive (which varies in size) that can be used to store music, photos and video transferred from a USB flash drive. The PS3 supports most commonly used formats for each category. For audio, the PS3 supports MP3, WAV, WMA and ATRAC3. For video, the PS3 supports MPEG, AVI, WMV, MP4 and DivX. For photos, the PS3 supports JPEG, GIF, TIFF, PNG and BMP.

Instructions

      Connect the USB flash drive to either USB port on the front of the PS3. It doesn't matter if the PS3 is on or off when you do this.

      Use the directional pad to scroll to the category (video, music or photo) on the XMB (the PS3's main menu) that best represents the type of media you want to put on the PS3. If you want to put videos on the PS3, you'd select the "video" category.

      Use the directional pad to scroll down to "Memory Stick" and press the "X" button. Select "Highlight All" and press the "X" button. All of the files (for the category you selected) on the USB flash drive will be displayed.

      Select the files you want to put on the PS3, press the "Triangle" button and select "Copy." After a few seconds, the file will be transferred to the PS3 hard drive.
