How to Connect a PS3 to a Mac by Wireless

Since Windows-based computers share the same networking standard as the PS3, any machine running a Microsoft operating system does not need additional components or software to share videos, pictures and music wirelessly with the PS3. Mac computers, on the other hand, require a special networking program that allows the Mac to recognize and connect with the PS3. MediaLink, a networking program, is the only free software on the market ($20 for registered copy) and is able to stream audio, video and photographs between your Mac and PS3.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install MediaLink to your Mac computer (see Resources).

    • 2

Click the "Apple" icon located in the top left corner of your screen and select the "System Preferences" option from the drop-down menu.

    • 3

Find and click on the MediaLink logo under the "Internet &Wireless" section.

    • 4

Select the "Sources" tab once the program loads and place a checkmark next to the iPhotos and iTunes folders. Selecting the folders allows you to access and sync the iTunes and iPhoto files wirelessly to your PS3.

    • 5

Power on the PS3 and scroll over to the "Music," "Video" or "Photos" icons using the left or right joystick. Scroll down and select the "Search for Media Servers" option. Your PS3 will search the local wireless network for the Mac device.

    • 6

Allow your PS3 to connect with the Mac device on the local wireless network. You will see a pop-up message labeled "Connecting" while you wait. Once the connection is complete, the pop-up disappears, and you are now able to access the iMac files on the PS3 and vice versa.
